Professor Amado San Mateo and I first met during the 50th Alumni homecoming of our Academic Organization in UP Diliman called the UP Gears and Pinions. He is one of the founders of UP Gears and Pinions without which my time spent in UP would be aimless and hopeless. He is very approachable and friendly, albeit maintaining a sense of formality with his charmingly crisp polo shirts.
Professor Amado San Mateo graduated from UP Diliman with A BS Mechanical Engineering Degree in 1956. Last 2009, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award after decades of service in the university.
Lolo Madz, as he is fondly called, is one of the first IE professors who taught to the first batch of IE students. He is quite the pioneer of sorts, isn’t he?
His decades of teaching translates to hundreds of students he has inspired in one way or another during his stay in the university. While I am not one of those students, I am glad to be considered a friend and orgmate of his. He is celebrating his 80th birthday this month – Happy happy birthday Lolo, from your many apo’s!
